The short answer

To distribute mutual funds in India, individuals and entities must pass the NISM Series V-A certification exam (for individuals), complete Know Your Distributor (KYD) verification, and obtain an AMFI Registration Number (ARN). Employees of corporate distributors get an EUIN. ARN is valid for three years and renewed with continuing education.
