Periodicals such as newspapers and magazines are now registered under the Press and Registration of Periodicals Act, 2023, which replaced the 1867 law. Registration is handled online by the Press Registrar General of India (PRGI, formerly the Registrar of Newspapers for India) through the Press Sewa portal, combining title verification and registration in one application.
