A society is registered with the state Registrar of Societies under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, or the state's version of it. At least seven persons subscribe to a memorandum of association and rules and regulations. Societies suit member-based bodies such as clubs, associations, schools and charitable organisations.
When to choose a society
A society is democratic: members elect a governing body that manages affairs. It is ideal for associations, cultural and sports clubs, educational institutions and charitable groups where many members participate.
