Frequently asked questions
Is a water test report mandatory for FSSAI?
A water analysis report from a recognised lab is required mainly for manufacturers and processors that use water as an ingredient or in processing. It is not usually needed for basic registration of traders.
What is an FSMS plan?
A Food Safety Management System plan describes how the business controls hazards in food handling, from raw material to dispatch. Licence applicants submit it to show compliance with hygiene and safety requirements.
Can I apply for FSSAI with a residential address?
Yes, particularly for home-based food businesses. Provide proof of possession of the residence, and ensure the kitchen meets basic hygiene requirements.
Do I need a separate FSSAI licence for each outlet?
Generally yes. Each premises where food business is carried on needs its own registration or licence. A business with a head office and units in different states typically needs a Central licence for the head office too.
